FXI inhibitors represent an emerging class of anticoagulants that are being evaluated across a wide range of clinical indications, including venous thromboembolism prevention, stroke and systemic embolism prevention in atrial fibrillation, and secondary prevention following ischemic stroke or myocardial infarction. With multiple agents currently advancing through phase II and phase III of clinical trials, FXI inhibitors have the potential to significantly influence anticoagulation management across diverse patient populations.
As these therapies are used more often in clinical practice, healthcare professionals must understand their unique pharmacologic properties, anticipated clinical benefits, and potential safety concerns. A key knowledge gap exists regarding the management of patients receiving FXI inhibitors who develop bleeding complications or require invasive procedures, particularly given the limited clinical experience and lack of established reversal strategies for this drug class. This webcast will address these gaps by reviewing the current evidence and discussing practical approaches to the management of patients treated with FXI inhibitors in perioperative settings and in the context of minor and major bleeding events.
