Named for the Society of Critical Care Medicine's (SCCM) founder and first president, Dr. Max Harry Weil, the SCCM-Weil Research Trust was created in 2015 to fund research grants and is SCCM's commitment to being part of the discovery and innovation needed to help secure future advances in the ICU.

Funds from the trust will be awarded annually at SCCM's Critical Care Congress using the same criteria, rules and selection processes that govern the previously established SCCM-Weil Research Grant program. Earnings from investments of the trust's assets will allow the Society to increase the amount of funding given out in the form of research grants.

SCCM Founder

Max Harry Weil, MD, PhD, MCCM, was a true visionary who committed his entire life to the pillars of academic life through patient care, discovery and innovation, and education. His contributions to the field of critical care medicine are numerous – from research on shock and establishment of a patient "shock ward," to proposing the term "critical care" and the start of SCCM, to introducing the use of computer techniques for patient monitoring.
