The article illustrates the benefits lip-reading interpretation can provide to improve communication with patients capable of mouthing words. Meltzer is an assistant professor of medicine and public health in the Division of Medical Ethics at Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University in New York, New York. She is also an assistant attending physician at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
