Train the multiprofessional critical care team to liberate patients from the harmful effects of an ICU stay.
The Society of Critical Care Medicine's (SCCM) hosted ICU Liberation course incorporates recommendations from the pain, agitation/sedation, delirium, immobility, and sleep disruption guidelines and provides implementation strategies through the ICU Liberation Bundle (A-F). Developed by international experts, the ICU Liberation course is designed for the whole ICU team and allows institutions to provide uniform patient management training for their clinicians.
Course features:
ICU Liberation is available in a live, site-hosted format for institutions to provide training for healthcare professionals.
To receive the certificate of successful completion, course participants must attend all didactic lectures, successfully complete all skill stations, and achieve a score of 70% or higher on the posttest.
The SCCM Hosted Training Team can provide details about bringing training to your institution.
Contact UsSCCM encourages sites to become self-sustaining in course delivery through delivery of hosted training programming. An overview of the hosted training model is provided here.
SCCM’s hosted training offers sites options for course delivery and learning by providing materials for online and in-person training. Sites can continue with the traditional method of meeting in person for the full course or they can assign some or all online course materials for learners to complete before attending the live course.
Training sites have the flexibility to arrange modules and coursework within a program in a way that best meets their needs.
The Adult ICU Liberation hosted course includes these lectures and skill stations. Skill stations are available with each A-F element of the ICU Liberation Bundle (marked by *).
The Pediatric ICU Liberation hosted course includes these lectures and skill stations:
*Skill station included.
Hosting sites are encouraged to train and run the course as many times as they like and can purchase additional course access for learners as often as needed. Because there is no separate license fee, there is no expiration date for running the course as long as the site has purchased learner access.
SCCM will continue to support fair and flexible pricing using its tiered pricing structure. Pricing tiers are based on a country’s gross domestic product at purchasing power parity per capita as reported by the World Bank in its most current World Development Indicators database. This allows SCCM to accommodate ranges in needs and available financial resources.
For-profit sites and U.S. government and military sites are encouraged to contact the Hosted Training Team to discuss pricing.

Sites and learners are encouraged to use and promote SCCM’s ICU Liberation Bundle (A-F), which offers guidance on how to implement the 2018 Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Prevention and Management of Pain, Agitation/Sedation, Delirium, Immobility, and Sleep Disruption in Adult Patients. Bundle elements individually and collectively can help reduce delirium, improve pain management, and reduce long-term consequences for adult ICU patients.
The Minimum Data Set Toolkit is provided for multiprofessional critical care teams to measure their practice for performance improvement. The sections cover data and compliance definitions, a spreadsheet for data collection, and input and compliance reports. The toolkit also explains how to understand and use the data for continuous process improvement.
