Host an FCCS: RL course and prepare healthcare professionals to care critically ill and injured patients in resource-limited areas.
The Society of Critical Care Medicine's (SCCM) hosted Fundamental Critical Care Support: Resource Limited (FCCS: RL) course combines expert-developed lectures with hands-on skill stations to prepare healthcare professionals for the unique challenges faced when resources are limited and the impact these limitations have on providing critical care. The FCCS: RL course is designed for healthcare professionals who may encounter critically ill or injured patients in resource-limited environments. Participants will learn about managing resource limitations, resource allocation, triage, and ethical implications. The course focuses on a minimum-better-best paradigm for identifying monitoring and treatment strategies in the setting of austerity or resource limitation. Caregivers must have a clear understanding of available medical experience and skills, evacuation capabilities and timelines, equipment, medications, and other supplies. A key aspect of FCCS: RL is the use of telemedicine to obtain essential subspecialty advice and procedural guidance when transport is delayed.
