This webcast is hosted by Discovery, SCCM's Critical Care Research Network.

Survey and Delphi methodologies are powerful tools for addressing important questions in critical care when evidence is limited, emerging, or uncertain. This webcast provides a practical introduction to designing, conducting, and reporting high-quality survey-based research, including quantitative and qualitative approaches. Plus, earn one accredited continuing education (ACE) credit.

Participants will explore the principles of consensus-building techniques such as the Delphi method and learn how these methodologies have been used to establish critical care research priorities for more than 30 years. By the end of the webcast, attendees will be equipped with practical guidance to develop rigorous, transparent, and impactful survey and Delphi studies for research, quality improvement, education, and clinical practice.

Learning objectives:

  • Differentiate between the aims and design of surveys versus Delphi methods
  • Identify the pillars of opinion-based research methods: assessing design appropriateness, reviewing question structure, and pilot testing
  • Recognize common biases and limitations of opinion-based research methods and how to address concerns through design modification
