Ludwig Lin, MD, speaks with Azra Bihorac, MD, MS, FCCM, about the article, “Guiding AKI Prevention Using Biomarkers,” published in Critical Connections. Dr. Bihorac works as an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, Surgery and Medicine at the University of Florida. She is also a Senior Intensivist and Nephrologist at University of Florida Health in Gainesville, Florida. In this article, Dr. Bihorac discusses the new urinary biomarker approved for risk stratification of AKI in critically ill patients, and a recommended algorithm to grade risk of AKI using clinical factors as well as the biomarker assay.
