Site Maintenance October 29 – November 5
SCCM is currently performing major updates to its digital infrastructure to better serve members. Any website that requires an SCCM Customer ID and password to log in is currently unavailable until November 5, 2024. SCCM Customer Service and staff have limited capabilities, and response times will be longer during this time.
The Discovery Data Coordinating Center (DCC) is a component of Discovery, the Critical Care Research Network, that can contribute to the success of grant proposals and the conduct of studies through a number of key functions:
The Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), through the Discovery DCC, oversees the collection, storage, and analysis of data from all study sites. SCCM also manages statistical analyses for studies through various academic institutions. Study principal investigators (PIs) collaborate closely with Discovery DCC staff, providing overall direction, overseeing adverse event reporting, and assisting with data presentation. Additionally, PIs contribute administrative, clinical, and technical expertise to study design and coordination.
To comply with HIPAA regulations, SCCM ensures that its Discovery DCC meets administrative, physical, and technical security standards. Participating research sites must also be HIPAA compliant, with policies governing data use, access, transfer, disposal, and encryption. Technical safeguards, such as access controls, audit reports, integrity measures, disaster recovery, and network security, protect electronic protected health information (ePHI) from unauthorized access or tampering.
Additionally, SCCM uses all necessary internal and external measures to ensure that data are secure, private, accurate, available, and usable. Any data the Discovery DCC receives are stored in REDCap Cloud, which is accessible only by approved employees and PIs and their institutions. Furthermore, Discovery DCC maintains a dynamic data governance framework that may be reviewed upon request.

Early collaboration with the Discovery DCC is critical for optimizing the potential for success, beginning at the earliest phase of study conceptualization.
The Discovery DCC is composed of statistical support (MS/PhD), program managers, and a data manager.
The Discovery DCC uses REDCap Cloud for research that requires data collection. REDCap is a secure, web-based application designed to support data capture for research studies. REDCap Cloud is compliant with FDA CFR Part 11, HIPAA, and EU Annex 11 regulations.
The Discovery Steering Committee is responsible for developing and implementing procedures to ensure integrity in several areas.
REDCap Cloud case report forms (CRFs) will be used to screen, enroll, and randomize subjects. The DCC will track enrollment and other results for transparent reporting, including the number randomized to each study arm and reasons for exclusion or loss to follow-up. The number enrolled by each site and the number randomized into each study arm will be provided in data reports to the study PI.
