Margaret Parker, MD, MCCM, speaks with Fran Balamuth, MD, PhD, about the article, “Pediatric Severe Sepsis in U.S. Children’s Hospitals,” published in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Balamuth is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania, Pearlman School of Medicine, and works at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In this article, Dr. Balamuth and coauthors compare the prevalence, resource utilization, and mortality for pediatric severe sepsis identified using two established identification strategies.
