The Society of Critical Care Medicine has named Megan N. Schagrin, MBA, CAE, CFRE, AAiP, as the next CEO/EVP.
After a long and distinguished tenure, David J. Martin, CAE, will retire as CEO/EVP on March 25, 2026. After a comprehensive and transparent search process, SCCM Council unanimously selected Megan N. Schagrin, MBA, CAE, CFRE, AAiP, as the Society’s next CEO/EVP.
About the Selection Process
SCCM Council, supported by a dedicated CEO/EVP Search Task Force and an external search firm, conducted an inclusive and rigorous selection process. After identifying more than 200 potential candidates, reviewing 50 prospects, and conducting an in-depth evaluation of the 24 top candidates, including internal applicants, Council unanimously chose Megan. She exemplifies SCCM’s vision for experience and innovation and her leadership will drive future growth and advance the Society’s strategic priorities.
About Megan
Megan brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in healthcare association management. For more than a decade, she served as CEO of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) and the SAEM Foundation, where she drove membership growth, strengthened governance, and expanded partnerships. Her prior executive experience includes senior leadership roles with the American College of Chest Physicians—where she served as senior vice president of business development, chief operating officer of CHEST Enterprises, and executive director of the CHEST Foundation—as well as leadership positions at other major medical societies. Megan holds an MBA with a specialization in healthcare management as well as the credentials of certified association executive (CAE), certified fundraising executive (CFRE), and certified association AI professional (AAiP).
Transition Timeline
Megan’s first day of active duty and public assumption of the CEO/EVP role will be February 2, 2026. She will assume full authority and responsibility for the CEO/EVP role on March 25, 2026, after a period of planned transition with SCCM’s current CEO, David Martin, who will retain full legal authority for the Society through March 25, 2026. Subsequently, David will remain available for several months to answer questions and ensure a smooth transition to new executive leadership.
Formal introductions and opportunities to meet Megan will be scheduled during her onboarding period with staff, key Society leaders, partner organizations, and the membership during Congress in Chicago in March 2026.

No immediate changes are expected. SCCM’s strategy remains under Council direction, and all current initiatives will continue as planned.
SCCM looks forward to welcoming Megan. Her collaborative leadership style and proven track record will help advance SCCM’s mission while bringing fresh perspectives to support SCCM members.
