In this article, the authors describe how the Society of Critical Care Medicine Discovery Viral Infection and Respiratory Illness Universal Study coronavirus disease 2019 registry sought to develop and implement prespecified best practices combined with grassroots efforts from clinical sites worldwide in order to develop clinically useful knowledge in response to a pandemic.

The campaign’s goal is to apply findings from data analysis in a clinical environment through standardized data models and shared resources, starting with the 2023 Datathon.

Marilyn N. Bulloch, PharmD, BCPS, FCCM, was joined by Mitchell M. Levy, MD, MCCM, at the 2023 Critical Care Congress to discuss the goal of the AIMS Study and the elements of both the Hour-1 and 3-Hour bundles. Dr. Levy is chief of the Division of Critical Care, Pulmonary, and Sleep Medicine and professor of medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. He is also the medical director of the medical ICU at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island, USA.
