Subject matter expert Sergio L. Zanotti-Cavazzoni, MD, FCCM, introduced a framework for understanding and developing skills relevant to professional and personal growth in his Critical Connections article, “Professional Development: Skills, Super Skills, and Ultra Skills.” The framework comprises three levels:

  • Skills are foundational competencies necessary for any profession and form the basis of professional development.
  • Super skills go beyond basic competencies and involve specialized abilities that set individuals apart, thereby contributing significantly to career success.
  • Ultra skills represent mastery in specific areas and are rare and valuable, often leading to exceptional achievements.
