PCCM Audio Summary - October 2025

The October 2025 issue of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) features articles on implementation of an early rehabilitation bundle, a quality improvement initiative to decrease the rate of hospital-acquired venous thromboembolism in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), and the feasibility of conducting a randomized controlled trial using the electronic health record to compare a restrictive strategy of red blood cell transfusion versus usual care. The clinical investigation articles cover variances in hemoglobin threshold for red blood cell transfusion at different institutions in Europe, the nutritional status of children with pediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome in Asia, factors contributing to caregiver presence at the bedside in the PICU, and the design of a novel ventilation rate metronome for use during CPR. The PCCM trial compares high-flow nasal cannula, humidified standard oxygen, and continuous positive airway pressure in infants with acute bronchiolitis.
