Gap Analysis Tool - Identification of Your ICU's Practice Differences

The Gap Analysis Tool is meant to help those implementing the Guidelines for Family-Centered Care in the Neonatal, Pediatric, and Adult ICU. The tool will help clinicians rapidly develop a bundle of recommendations tailored to the needs of a specific intensive care unit (ICU). Once familiarized with the guideline, download the Gap Analysis Tool and complete Steps 1 and 2.

An instructional video walks you through the use of the Gap Analysis Tool developed in conjunction with the Guidelines for Family-Centered Care in the Neonatal, Pediatric, and Adult ICU.

Step 1 lists each guideline recommendation and prompts the user to indicate the frequency with which his/her ICU already implements each recommendation. A score is populated for each recommendation based on its importance and the frequency indicated; items are then ranked from most to least in need of change.

Once an analysis of all 24 recommendations is complete, Step 2 provides a prioritized list of items in need of attention.

Questions are provided to facilitate discussion with the ICU team related to how the ICU differs from the recommendation and to how to identify barriers to implementation.

The toolkit then prompts the team to re-rank the recommendations in order of priority for pursuing change.
