Deep in the interior of the Everglades where the sawgrass prairies give way to the Big Cypress, you will find the proud heartland of the never-conquered Seminole Nation. Visit the At-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum (To Learn in the Seminole language) to examine rare artifacts that show how Seminole ancestors lived in the Florida swamps and Everglades during the late 1800s.  Follow a winding nature trail outside of the museum to a Seminole village to watch arts and crafts demonstrations, and listen to great Seminole stories. Then board swamp buggies to travel through hardwood hammocks and sloughs in search of deer, water buffalo, wild hogs, Florida panthers, hawks, eagles and other rare birds. Airboats will skim through the marshy land and water of the Everglades, and guests will learn about the alligators as they swim up

Villa Vizcaya and Fairchild Tropical Gardens - 9am - 12pm
The world famous Villa Vizcaya, a 16th century Italian Renaissance-styled villa nestled in ten acres of beautifully manicured gardens sits directly on Biscayne Bay. This 70-room palace features fine period furniture, textiles, sculpture and architectural elements from the 15th through the early 19th centuries. Formerly the winter home of James Deering, co-founder of International Harvester Company, its 1914 construction employed 1,000 artisans and took two years to complete. Today the splendid Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, and neoclassical rooms have been restored to their original splendor. The superb formal gardens feature many grottos, pools, fountains, and sculptures. Following Villa Vizcaya, visit the 83-acre Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens, which opened in 1938 and showcases exotic plants and trees from around the world set in a landscape masterpiece designed by William Lyman Phyllips, who also designed New York’s Central Park.  Orchids, heliconias, breadfruit, wax palms and free ferns are just some of the Gardens’ luscious plant life.

Tropical Deco in a Fabled Playground - 2:30pm - 5:30pm
Cancelled tour. Please select another.

Encounter the Art Deco tour that captures the glitz and glamour of the roaring twenties and thirties in our nation’s only Art Deco Historic District. This is your chance to experience the thrill of a city that defiantly danced ‘til dawn through the prohibition, the depression, major hurricanes, and two World Wars. The historian on this tour will share the eye-popping history and architectural styles of this unique destination, including the halls of the first hotel ever built on Miami Beach, the imaginative and playful art deco lifeguard stands lining the beach like pastel-colored toy soldiers, the landmarks serving as signposts to an era that looked forward to the future and celebrated progress, innovation, adventure and freedom. Sunscreen and light, comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended for this tour.
Cost: $75 per person

Ghosts and Gravestones - 6:30pm - 9:30pm
Cancelled tour. Please select another.

This evening tour by lantern starts by exploring the mystery of one of North America’s most important and controversial archaeological sites:  the Miami River Circle, which is believed to be on the site of an ancient Tequesta Village dating back more than 2,000 years. The prehistoric circle, 38 feet in diameter, was cut into the limestone bedrock by ancient peoples who once inhabited this site.  An expert archaeologist will help piece together this amazing mystery. The ornate and mournful restored Miami City Cemetery is the next stop as you visit long-deceased pioneers and settlers that made Miami great. If the ground could talk, there would be stories of dark Santeria and voodoo rituals among the memorials of Miami’s oldest families. Learn how they lived and died when Miami was just a sleepy little village.
Special Note: 15% of the gross profits of this tour go directly to the Dade County Heritage Trust to support their preservation efforts.
Cost: $90 per person
